Conditions governing the selection of students
- One scholarship is awarded annually for a course of undergraduate study of three years for an ordinary degree and four years for an honours degree.
- The McEuen Scholarship Foundation may elect not to make an award in any year.
- Applicants must reside in Canada and be Canadian citizens.
- Applicants must not be more than 21 years of age on December 31 of the year preceding the award of the scholarship.
- An applicant, if not already attending a university, must be qualified for admission into a university in Canada.
- An applicant should have a strong academic record. In addition, applicants will need to demonstrate that they possess the initiative and independence to profit from the experience of studying in another country.
- An applicant must not hold a university degree at the date of his or her admission to the University of St Andrews.
- An applicant must be acceptable to the Dean of the Faculty he or she proposes to enter.
- All awards must be confirmed by the Senatus Academicus of the University of St Andrews.
- The scholarship will pay for full tuition fees, university residence charges and £200 towards miscellaneous expenses.
- The successful applicant must reside in one of the halls of residence during the first year at the University of St Andrews, and it is the wish of the Foundation that students shall continue in subsequent years to live in accommodation administered by the University.
- A student who leaves St Andrews voluntarily before taking his or her first degree will be expected to refund the amount of the scholarship paid in the last academic year.
- McEuen Scholars must submit an annual progress report at the end of each academic year.

Eligibility
I am not a Canadian citizen / I do not currently reside in Canada. Can I still apply for the McEuen Scholarship?
No. The scholarship is available only to resident Canadian citizens.
Must I be of a certain age to qualify for the scholarship?
Applicants must not be more than 21 years of age on December 31 of the year preceding the award of the scholarship.
I already have a university degree. Do I still qualify for the scholarship?
No. Applicants who have already completed another university degree are not eligible.
If I am awarded the scholarship, am I guaranteed acceptance at St Andrews?
No. You must apply to the university before the McEuen Scholarship deadline, and provide proof of acceptance before the date of your interview. The scholarship cannot be awarded to an applicant who has not received prior acceptance by the university.

After the initial evaluations, short-listed candidates will be invited to appear before the Selection Committee for an interview.
What criteria are used in the selection of scholarship winners?
The Selection Committee examines various aspects of a candidate’s life. In addition to academic accomplishment, the committee seeks indications that the applicant possesses the initiative and autonomy to best profit from studying abroad.
When will scholarship recipients be notified?
Recipients are chosen by the McEuen Scholarship Selection Committee each spring. Scholarship winners will be notified by May 1.
Will unsuccessful applicants be notified?
Yes. All applicants are notified of the progress of their applications.
Scholarship details and requirements
What is the total value of the McEuen Scholarship?
The scholarship will pay for full tuition fees, university residence charges and an annual grant of £200 for use towards miscellaneous expenses. Please visit the university website for exact monetary values.
How are the funds provided?
Payments are sent directly to the University of St Andrews in two instalments per year.
Is the scholarship renewable?
Yes. The scholarship is awarded for the full course of undergraduate study (three years for ordinary degrees and four years for honours degrees).
If I am awarded the McEuen Scholarship, must I live in residence at St Andrews?
Yes, for the first year. For subsequent years, it is the preference of the McEuen Scholarship Foundation that students continue to live in university-administered housing.
During my studies at St Andrews, how should I keep the McEuen Scholarship Foundation informed of my progress?
McEuen Scholars are asked to submit an annual report at the end of each academic year. Additional updates are always welcomed by the McEuen Scholarship Foundation.
