How do I apply for the McEuen Scholarship?

You must complete the application form and provide all the required documentation. The application form and conditions are available for download here.

When is the McEuen Scholarship application due?

The application deadline for the McEuen Scholarship is January 31, each year. We encourage all students to submit their applications well in advance of the deadline.

I missed the deadline for the application. Do you consider late applications?

No, we do not accept late applications.

When will scholarship recipients be notified?

Recipients are chosen by the McEuen Scholarship Selection Committee each spring. Sponsored applicants will be notified by the end of April.

Will unsuccessful applicants for scholarships be notified?

Yes. All applicants are notified of the progress of their applications.

How will scholarship winners receive the funds?

McEuen Scholarship cheques are forwarded to the University of St. Andrews in semi-annual installments. Students should contact UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) for further information.

Is the scholarship renewable after the first year?

Yes, the scholarship is awarded for the full course of undergraduate study (three years for ordinary degrees and four years for honours degrees).

What must I submit with my application?

All applicants must submit their academic record, personal statement, resume of extracurricular involvement and two letters of academic reference.

Is anything else required after I submit my application?

After the initial evaluations, select candidates will be invited to appear before the Selection Committee for an interview.

What criteria are used in the selection of scholarship winners?

The Selection Committee examines various aspects of a candidate’s life. In addition to academic accomplishment, the committee seeks indications that the applicant possesses the initiative and autonomy to best profit from studying abroad.

I am not a Canadian citizen / I do not currently reside in Canada. Can I still apply for the McEuen scholarship?

No, the scholarship is available only to resident Canadian citizens.

Must I be of a certain age to qualify for the scholarship?

Applicants must not be more than age 21 on December 31, 2007.

I already have a university degree. Do I still qualify for the scholarship?

No, applicants having already completed another university degree do not qualify for the scholarship.

Which do I apply to first, the McEuen Scholarship or the University of St. Andrews?

Applicants are required to apply for admission to the University before the deadline for filing applications for the McEuen Scholarship and to provide proof of acceptance by St. Andrews prior to determination of the short list of applicants granted interviews leading to the award of the scholarship.

If I am awarded the scholarship, am I guaranteed acceptance at the University of St. Andrews?

To be guaranteed a place at the University of St. Andrews, applicants are required to apply for admission to the University before the deadline for filing applications for the McEuen Scholarship and to provide proof of acceptance by St. Andrews prior to determination of the short list of applicants granted interviews leading to the award of the scholarship. The scholarship cannot be awarded to an applicant who has not received prior acceptance by the University.

What is the total value of the McEuen Scholarship?

If I am awarded the McEuen Scholarship, must I reside in the University of St. Andrews residence?

The successful applicant must reside in one of the halls of residence during the first year at the University of St. Andrews. It is the wish of the McEuen Scholarship Foundation that students continue to live in accommodations administered by the university in subsequent years.

During my studies at the University of St. Andrews, how should I keep the McEuen Scholarship Foundation informed of my progress?

McEuen Scholars are encouraged to submit an annual report supported by a year-end progress report or evaluation from at least one faculty member. Any other documentation or information is equally welcomed by the McEuen Scholarship Foundation.
